Telenor Business Solutions has entered into a three-year contract with Widerøe Flyveselskap to take over management of the company's IT systems. The contract will be based on ASP (Application Service Provider) technology. This entails that Telenor Business Solutions will take over operational responsibility for the IT systems used by 1200 employees and 33 offices and stations in Norway with a solution that will encompass around 750 ASP connection points.
The ASP solution will be one of the most extensive in Norway and entail that Telenor Business Solutions will take over management of all the computer programs in Widerøe's portfolio. A completely new network (WAN) will be established, and the various computer programs will be installed at Telenor's operation centers so that the various machine type, operating system and database needs will be met. The contract's service and reliability level will ensure Widerøe a high level of quality.

Exciting co-operation
- We are signing an operations management contract of this type with Telenor, because IT operations are not part of Widerøe's core operations, says the company's chief financial officer Lars Kobberstad.
- Telenor has greater resources for the management of IT systems than Widerøe, and we believe that such an arrangement will be more beneficial to us than if we managed the systems ourselves. In addition, the contract will make it easier for us to update and develop our IT systems, says Mr. Kobberstad.

- We are very pleased about this contract and are looking forward to cooperating with Widerøe, says Mr. Holskil, division manager of Telenor Business Solutions. - This is a complex delivery and an organization that demands a high level of quality for its IT systems. We regard the fact that we were chosen as a stamp of quality and a confirmation of our solid position in the market, says Mr. Holskil.

Large companies often choose ASP
During the last six months Telenor Business Solutions has entered into a number of large ASP contracts and taken over operational responsibility for the customers' IT systems. Early this year the company entered into a contract with the insurance company Vesta for 1250 connection points, and just before Easter the company signed a contract with ISS for around 750 connection points.

- One of the most important competitive advantages of Telenor Business Solutions is that we have a professional organization with long experience with the management of complex computer systems in large organizations, says Tarje Holskil, division manager of Telenor Business Solutions. - There is a clear trend in the ASP market that large organizations with well-defined IT strategies choose ASP solutions and transfer operational responsibility to others. Long experience and an infrastructure with a high capacity are necessary in order to accept such obligations, and this is precisely where Telenor Business Solutions has its greatest competitive strength, says Mr. Holskil.
