Telenor has today delivered a bid for one of the four licenses for third generation mobile telephony systems, UMTS, to be issued in Denmark.
"The two shareholding partners in the Danish mobile operator Sonofon, of which Telenor owns 53,5 per cent of the shares, were not able to reach an agreement on the UMTS question within the time limit for the license auction. In order not to miss the deadline for the auction, Telenor has chosen to hand in a bid in Telenor's own name", says Arve Johansen, CEO of Telenor Mobile.

The Danish Telecom Agency (Telestyrelsen) is expected to announce the results of the auction later in September 2001.
