From 9 July, customers who use Telenor Mobil's prepaid service will be able to use their mobile telephones abroad. Users of the prepaid service will be able to make calls from and receive calls to their mobile 'phone, and send and receive text messages when they are abroad.

As a result, more than half a million of Telenor Mobil's customers who avail themselves of the prepaid service can take their mobile phones abroad this summer, make local calls in the countries they visit and also call home to
Norway. It will also be possible to receive text messages, voice mail, and use MobilInfo.

Before these customers leave Norway they must register themselves and prepay NOK 500's worth of calling time. Registration must be done through our Norwegian Customer Service (only available from Norway: 164), or, from 9 July, via the Internet and Telenor's dealers.

"This offer is available for the summer, i.e. from 9 July to 31 August. We will revert later with a permanent international offer for prepaid services", says Jo Lunder, Deputy Managing Director of Telenor Mobil.

"We have registered that the majority of new mobile telephone customers prefer the prepaid subscription," says Lunder, who is of the opinion that the services offered them should be just as good as those offered to other mobile subscribers. "But they must accept paying a somewhat higher price per minute, since they do not pay any fixed subscription fee", he says.

Customers using prepaid services will be charged an extra NOK 3 per minute in addition to the ordinary international tariff. To receive calls abroad, the additional charge will be NOK 1 per minute. The cost of sending text messages abroad is the same in all countries, namely NOK 5 per message. There is no charge for receiving text messages abroad (with the exception of Sri Lanka). Calls will normally be charged to the prepaid account within 1-3 days, but not later than 7 days.

It may be difficult to get through to the Recharging Menu and Cash Call. This varies from country to country and from mobile operator to mobile operator. It is therefore best for the customer to prepay sufficient calling time before he/she travels abroad.

Customers opting for the prepaid service now account for more than 80 per cent of Telenor Mobil's new sales and he company now has more than 500,000 customers using this service.
