: Telenor has developed a new service that will warn users abroad about high levels of data traffic, and offer its mobile broadband customers less expensive data services in Sweden and Denmark.

However, Telenor still recommends customers check mobile calling and data rates before travelling abroad this summer. This way you can avoid an unpleasant surprise when you come home from your holiday.

Wants customers to benefit fully from mobile broadband
Telenor has reduced the cost of mobile calls from abroad in recent years, and its customers have to remember just two prices in Europe. This takes out the guesswork when you are travelling. Telenor is working with foreign telecommunication companies to reduce data costs in general, so our customers can benefit fully from mobile broadband while abroad, and not just in Norway. In parallel with this, Telenor is now helping customers more easily control their data usage abroad.

Datavarsel Utland - new service from Telenor
To help prevent our customers from receiving big bills, Telenor has introduced an SMS warning service for customers who are about to incur high mobile data costs while abroad. This will help prevent our customers from receiving unexpected bills when they come home from holiday.

The warning service applies worldwide wherever Telenor has roaming agreements and sends the customer a message when their data usage exceeds NOK 300 for private consumers and NOK 1000 for corporate customers. The system sends one warning per day. The warning will reach most customers who use mobile data services and a large share of customers using Mobilt Bredbånd (mobile broadband) on their PC. The customers are still however responsible for keeping track of their data usage while abroad.

New data rates for Telenor Mobilt Bredbånd customers while in Scandinavia
Telenor is a large mobile telecommunication company in Scandinavia, with operations in Sweden and Denmark, something which its customers can now benefit from.

Customers who have a Mobilt Bredbånd subscription with Telenor will pay NOK 100 per day for daily data usage of up to 200Mb when surfing in Telenor's network in Sweden or Sonofon's network in Denmark. Ordinary list prices apply to traffic over this limit, for the time being NOK 25 per Mb.

Encourages customers to use wi-fi hotspots
Customer wishing to use Mobilt Bredbånd outside Scandinavia are encouraged to use Telenor's Trådløse sone wi-fi hotspots. Telenor offer Trådløs Sone/WLAN in 38,000 locations abroad via its partners The Cloud and WeRoam. The Cloud has a high density of hotspots in Great Britain, Germany and Scandinavia, while WeRoam has hotspots in Europe, USA/Canada, Asia and a number of South American and African countries. Connection to Trådløs Sone via Telenor's partners abroad costs just NOK 1.25 per minute in the Nordics and NOK 2 per minute in the rest of the world.

Other important information about using your mobile phone abroad:

Free pricing information via SMS while abroad
Telenor has launched a service that automatically gives you pricing information while in EU/EEA countries. When your mobile phone registers on a foreign mobile network, as a Telenor customer you will receive an SMS with information about prices. You will be told what it costs tocall home to Norway and how much it costs to receive calls where you are. While abroad, you can also call the free pricing information line on +4791509003.

MobilSvar
When you call your MobilSvar (mobile answer phone) while abroad you pay the same price as for other calls to Norway. Note that it also costs money to receive calls to your MobilSvar while abroad, and in addition, you have to pay for calls to be forwarded to your MobilSvar in Norway. If you want to turn off MobilSvar before leaving Norway, Telenor recommends you contact Customer Service on tel. 09000 or (+47) 91509000 from abroad), or turn it off yourself. The only number that can be used for MobilSvar in Norway and abroad is (+47) 91509001.

SMS and MMS
With 8-9 million SMS and MMSs passing through Telenor's network every day, these services are the most popular. In the summer month of July we estimate customers will send each other approximately 220 million messages while on holiday. Many send an SMS rather than calling, and an MMS can be cheaper than a postcard.
