ColourSat, a business unit within Telenor Broadband Services, shall distribute two Chinese TV-channels via satellite to TV-viewers all over Europe. The two channels, CCTV-4 and CCTV-9, will be added to ColourSat's rapidly expanding line-up of multi-cultural and thematic channels. CCTV-4 and CCTV-9 will be distributed via Telenor's satellite platform on 1 degree west (1°W). Both channels are available today for viewing in Europe and will be encrypted and commercially launched in October 2001.
Through co-operation with Worldview Global Media Ltd., Telenor Broadband Services has signed an agreement with China Central Television (CCTV) to distribute the International channel CCTV-4 and the English-speaking channel CCTV-9 throughout Europe.

CCTV is the national TV network of the Peoples Republic of China. The population coverage of CCTV programming reaches almost 90 percent, exceeding one billion inhabitants of China.

CCTV-9 serves as a window towards China for English speaking people around the world. The channel broadcasts news and current affairs bulletins, complemented by magazine and feature programmes, documentaries, entertainment shows and educational programmes. CCTV-4, also known as CCTV International, focuses on Chinese speaking people outside China as well as in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

ColourSat was set up to deliver multi-cultural and thematic channels to special interest groups in Europe. Based on Telenors satellite capacity on the satellites Thor I, Thor II, Thor III and Intelsat 707, ColourSat offers a turnkey service in the European market - distributing multi-cultural TV-channels via cable and satellite re-distributors, by offering customer services, sales and marketing, distribution management, conditional access and invoicing.
