Telenor is strengthening its innovation and development focus by gathering its research and development resources into a new unit, Group Business Development & Research. The unit will be led by Executive Vice President Morten Karlsen Sørby.
Telenor will create an even stronger force for business development, research and innovation by coordinating and tying development activities closer to business operations. The new unit will therefore gather the three group functions of Global Coordination, Research & Innovation and Group Strategy in the new unit Group Business Development & Research.

New business models mean new requirements

"The technological convergence between the telecommunication and IT sectors has led to a need for a stronger focus on innovation and renewal and the development of new business models. The merging of skills and activities will strengthen the innovation and business development in the Telenor Group," says Jon Fredrik Baksaas.

Morten Karlsen Sørby will head the new unit and continues as member of the Group Executive Management. He is currently Executive Vice President and has been head of the Nordic operations in Telenor since 2005. Karlsen Sørby joined Telenor in 1993 and has held a number of management positions in the group including CEO of Telenor Mobile and Telenor International AS.

Nordic management

Telenor's Nordic operations will until further notice be headed by Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO, and Ragnar H. Korsæth, Executive Vice President. The process of finding a new head of the Telenor Nordic region will be initiated. Ragnar H. Korsæth will take over the responsibility for following up Telenor's operations in Sweden and Denmark and will be part of the Group Executive Management. Since 2006, he has been Executive Vice President and head of Global Coordination. The head of Telenor's Norwegian operations will for the time being report to the Group CEO.

"The organisation of operational activities in Telenor's three regional business units will remain, and the regions' roles and responsibilities will not change as a result of the establishment of the new group function. The communicated target for the Nordic operations of generating 10 billion NOK in operative cash flow stands firm, says Baksaas.

The changes to the Group Executive Management will be effective as of today, Friday 17 April 2009.
