Telenor Sweden has signed an agreement with DaimlerChrysler Services Fleetboard concerning fleet management services. All trucks with Fleetboard system will be equipped with Swedish SIM cards from Telenor. Telenor already has agreements with Volvo and Scania, but the agreement with DaimlerChrysler Services Fleetboard is an enormous breakthrough on the international market.

DaimlerChrysler is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, selling approximately 275,000 trucks and vans each year in Europe. The agreement involves a large amount of European trucks being equipped with Swedish SIM cards from Telenor over a period of several years, making it possible to communicate with the vehicles over the mobile telephone network.

"DaimlerChrysler is our first really large customer for this type of service outside Scandinavia and represents an important step for Telenor. Together with our existing agreement with Volvo and Scania, we now supply communication solutions to 90 per cent of the European truck market," said Johan Lindgren, CEO of Telenor's Swedish operations.

The agreement with DaimlerChrysler Services Fleetboard is yet another for Telenor's telematics business area which before summer, through its Telenor Cinclus subsidiary, signed a large contract with Fortum concerning automatic reading of electricity meters.

"The new agreement with DaimlerChrysler clearly demonstrates the breadth of services Telenor can provide. We currently offer a complete range of communication services for our corporate customers and are continually working to develop new solutions for our clients," said Johan Lindgren.

With this mobile communication solution and Telenor's SIM cards it will be possible to receive information on the whereabouts of the vehicles, what load they are carrying and whether everything on the vehicle is working as it should. In this way, it will be easier for the vehicle owner to manage his fleet, while at the same time, safety and service for the driver will be improved.

"We are very happy to have Telenor as partner for our communication issues. As a result of our strategic cooperation, we are able to offer a Europe wide flaterate to our customers. This will further stimulate the telematics market and thus will help us as well as it will help Telenor," said Ralf Forcher, Managing Director of DaimlerChrysler Services Fleetboard.
