In December 2008 Telenor Serbia received the Virtus Award, presented annually for corporate philanthropy, at a ceremony in the National Assembly. The award is given for special contribution at the national level in the area of corporate responsibility.

"We see this award as a valuable recognition of Telenor's efforts to date, and a motivation for new investments in the Serbian society. We are glad to help establish an effective dialogue between the civil and corporate sectors, since Serbia and its citizens can have long-term benefits from it", said Sandra Å tajner, Telenor Chief Communications Officer, upon accepting the Award on the behalf of the company. As a socially responsible company, Telenor founded its own foundation, which has supported more than 50 projects this year alone.

The work of the Telenor Foundation includes:

  • The Foundation entered into strategic partnership with the Petnica Research Station near Valjevo, and established the Prof. Dr Ilija Stojanović Award, presented to students and young scientists for their contribution in the field of telecommunications.

  • In cooperation with the People's Office of the President of Serbia, the Foundation carries out the "Let's Wake IT Serbia Up" project.

  • Advocating equal opportunities for persons with disabilities, the Foundation helps establish and equip the Social Club at the Special Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics.

  • Supporting the Centre for Students with Disabilities at the University of Belgrade.

  • Help equipping the Shelter at the Centre for Children and Adolescents in Belgrade.
