A book presenting the stories of functionally disabled people from their working lives also contains a portrait of Telenor Open Mind, under the suggestive title of "No arms, No cake".

On Friday 17 August the book was presented in Norway where both Telenor's Open Mind manager Ingrid Ihme and Telenor itself received high praise for more than 10 years of work on the work-training programme for people with functional disabilities.

Value added - not charity

President and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas attended the book release and emphasised that Telenor Open Mind is not about charity, but about adding value to the company. He gave credit to Ingrid Ihme as the driving force behind the programme and to the trade union movement for having supported Telenor Open Mind, and stressed that the programme is now being launched in other countries where Telenor has operations. The programme has already been introduced in Sweden, and will, in the course of next year, also be introduced in Denmark.

Integration of people with functional disabilities in working life

The book is a product of a collaboration involving several organisations and individuals in Norway who work daily against the discrimination of people with functional disabilities and towards their integration in working life.

"I have met more than one hundred people who have been through the programme and their motivating force has been a desire to be like everyone else: to be able to work, earn a wage and be useful," said Ingrid Ihme.
