The Danish Telecom Agency today announced the four licenses for third generation mobile telephony systems, UMTS, in Denmark. Telenor was not among the companies which was awarded a license.
The distribution of the licenses was conducted through an open auction with a minimum price of DKK 500 million. The price to be paid for each license is DKK 950 million, equivalent to the fourth highest bid in the auction.

"Our business plan for the Danish mobile market did not permit us to pay the price which was set for the licenses", says Arve Johansen, CEO of Telenor Mobile. "We believe Sonofon will have ample possibilities of pursuing the implementation of the 3G strategies set out by the company."
