Telenor Norway has selected Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) as its partner to modernize and simplify the fixed network operations. The goal is to improve customer experience through reduced complexity and faster deliveries.
Telenor Norway has launched a long-term effort to modernize and simplify products, processes and related IT systems in the fixed area. On 24th June, Telenor Norway signed a contract with TCS as a partner.

- This is one of the largest change programs in recent history for Telenor Norway. The agreement with TCS represents an important milestone for us. They have the expertise and the methodology we need to simplify work processes, products and IT solutions to the fixed network area. Our aim is to provide customers with better experiences, with improved quality and faster deliveries, while reducing costs, says Berit Svendsen, CEO of Telenor Norway.

Radical change

The telecom market in Norway and globally is undergoing a major upheaval. Technology is evolving faster than ever, with new infrastructure and new services. Telenor invests over 4 billion NOK in infrastructure and services in Norway. Use patterns are changing and we see that data usage is growing rapidly and already more important than the voice of our customers. The competition is international, where global content providers are strong competitors.

- A dynamic market is in many ways an ideal situation for a strong telecommunications company as Telenor, where new opportunities are opening up and our services are in demand. The challenges we must nevertheless take seriously. Complexity of internal processes and IT systems slows us. At the same time we experience reduced customer base for traditional fixed line services, while costs do not fall at the same rate. Therefore we are now in partnership with TCS radically changing our entire fixed network operations in both voice and broadband, says Svendsen.

- Always been ahead

Telenor Norway has a good knowledge of TCS, since the company from summer of 2010 was one of two main suppliers of IT services (applications management and systems development) to Telenor Norway.

- In a hyper connected world typified by an unprecedented pace of change, companies that reimagine and simplify their businesses can significantly boost their competitiveness. Telenor has always been ahead of the curve in terms of embracing technology, investing in new markets and staying connected with their customers' evolving needs. We are very pleased to extend our ongoing partnership with them to this vital area of modernizing their fixed line business, using TCS' future fit telecom platform TCS HOBS, says N Chandrasekaran, CEO & Managing Director of TCS.

Telenor Norway and TCS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in March this year and has spent the time since then to the preparation and analysis of IT solutions, products and work processes. The parties are now ready to start detailing the design and transformation of the fixed network. The work will continue until 2018. Terms and conditions of the agreement/contract won’t be disclosed by either party.
