As of November 1, Norwegians will be able to switch from one mobile company to another without having to change phone numbers. Customers wishing to change to Telenor need only contact Telenor Mobil. Telenor Mobil will complete the process and cancel the previous subscription. The procedure takes only seven working days to complete.
Customers have often refrained from switching companies as it has previously entailed a change of phone numbers. This barrier is now gone, granting users more flexibility. NFNP will provide more operator options for the customer and increase competition in the mobile market. Norway's leading mobile operator, Telenor Mobil, welcomes the initiative.

"We in Telenor Mobil are confident that we provide Norwegian mobile users with the best offer possible. We therefore see the introduction of number portability as an opportunity to attract even more customers," said Managing Director, Ingvild Myhre.

As of November 1, customers wishing to switch to Telenor Mobil can do so via the Internet website www.telenormobil.no, by calling Customer Services on 09000 (within Norway) or by contacting a Telenor Mobil dealer. To ensure that customers are not moved from one company to another against their will, they must show identification when asking for the changeover or when picking up new SIM cards that will be sent by registered mail.

It is the customer who chooses when the subscription is to be moved, and it will normally take a minimum of seven working days from the time the customer registers until the portability process is completed. This is in accordance with routines stipulated by The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority, which state that the process should take a minimum of six and a half working days. Telephones will function normally during the changeover. Customers do not have to cancel any previous subscriptions. This will be dealt with by the new company taking over the subscription.
