Telenor has a long-standing partnership agreement with the Nobel Peace Center, providing services as well as direct funding. Telenor is proud to support the Center's widely acclaimed work for peace. The agreement, which dates back to 2004, was renewed in 2008.

During the first four years of the agreement, Telenor contributed a total of NOK 14 million to the Center.

"We are very pleased to have an international communications partner such as Telenor on our team," said Geir Lundestad, Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute and Chair of the Board of the Nobel Peace Center, upon signing the agreement.

Supporting peace efforts

"Telenor has a number of international commitments in troubled regions of the world, and we are keen to give our support to this important peace effort," said President and CEO of Telenor Jon Fredrik Baksaas before signing the agreement.

"Peace and communication, and a global focus, are important aspects of this partnership, very much in line with commitment of the Telenor Group to strive for positive social development," said Baksaas. "The agreement will also be a considerable source of inspiration for our employees, as well as an important contribution to our effort to strengthen the profile of Telenor both in Norway and abroad."

Important support

"We see the support and commitment given by Telenor to the Nobel Peace Center as an important contribution to our work for world peace," said Lundestad. "The fact that such an important international telecommunications company gives its backing to our vision through its commitment to positive social development, makes Telenor an ideal partner for the Nobel Peace Center."

Private funding is important

The Nobel Peace Center opened in June 2005, with the royal couples of both Norway and Sweden present. The Center's vision is to make a contribution to peace through reflection, debate and involvement.
The Peace Center is largely funded by private sponsors, and receives support from a number of other major companies.
