Fornebu, 19 September 2005) Telenor and Save the Children have entered into a three-year partnership agreement. The purpose of the agreement is to prevent abuse of children over the Internet, and to make the Internet and mobile phones safe for children and young users.

This partnership involves a joint effort from Telenor and Save the Children in the struggle against the distribution of images and films depicting sexual exploitation of children. As part of the agreement, Telenor will give an annual amount of NOK 1 million to Save the Children, as a contribution to its efforts to prevent sexual exploitation of children. The parties will also exchange knowledge, develop know-how and distribute information on how to prevent children from ending up in dangerous situations when they use the Internet or their mobile phones.

"The aim of our partnership with Save the Children is to contribute to make the Internet and mobile telephones safe and useful tools for children. As Norway's largest supplier of Internet and mobile telephony, we are very concerned that children and young users should be able to use modern communication tools without any risk," said Director Consumer Market Berit Kjøll at Telenor.

An important part of Save the Children's work involves protecting children against sexual abuse over the Internet and mobile phones. The organisation runs information campaigns in schools, and awareness campaigns vis-Ã -vis public authorities, support functions and the police, in addition to children and adults.

"This agreement shows that Telenor is serious about its social commitments," said secretary general Gro Brækken of Save the Children. "Save the Children is working to limit the distribution of documented sexual abuse over the Internet and prevent such abuse from occurring in the future. Children must be able to use the Internet and mobile phones without risk. The agreement with Telenor ensures that Save the Children is able continue its efforts, and Telenor will be able to use its position and experience to develop good solutions. This is a partnership that will benefit children," said Brækken.

Nationwide tour to raise awareness of sensible web use
Save the Children and Telenor have now embarked on a joint "Sensible Web Use" tour. 44 comprehensive schools all over Norway will be visited, and the overall goal is to raise the awareness of proper use of the Internet and mobile phones. The tour kicked off in Kirkenes on 29 August and will end in Lillehammer on 28 October.

Telenor and Save the Children have previously entered into a two-year partnership agreement. The current agreement is an extension of this agreement.
