Telenor has decided to accept a fine of NOK two million imposed by Økokrim - the Norwegian authority for economic and environmental crime - on December 13 last year, as well as the seizure of NOK eight million, following alleged violations of telecom legislation. Telenor continues to deny that it has committed any violations but has decided to accept the fine nonetheless.
"The case is of historic interest only and results from special market and regulatory conditions in the late 1990s, which no longer apply. The conditions the fine is based on are thus of no principal importance and will not have any influence on Telenor's present or future business activities. Based on an overall evaluation, we have decided to accept the fine," said Telenor CEO Tormod Hermansen.
