Henrik Clausen new CEO of SONOFON

On 23 May this year, Telenor acquired the broadband provider Cybercity. Together with the mobile operator SONOFON, Telenor has now gained a strong position in the Danish telecoms market.

"We are very pleased that Henrik Clausen has accepted the position as CEO of SONOFON and that he joins Telenor's Nordic management team as the head of our joint telecommunications activities in Denmark," said Morten Karlsen Sørby, Executive Vice President and Head of Telenor in the Nordic region.

"Henrik Clausen has extensive experience at managerial level, and has shown a strong capacity for developing and implementing strategies, as Cybercity's financial results clearly demonstrates. These qualities will now be employed to develop the two companies, and we have high expectations for the future," continued Morten Karlsen Sørby.

"This is a exciting challenge. We are in the process of developing a really strong operation, capable of meeting the significant challenges in the Danish telecommunications market. SONOFON has a strong position as the country's number two operator, with more than 1.2 million customers, and a clear potential for further growth. This is an exciting task that I am very much looking forward to," said Henrik Clausen.

During the second quarter, and in an otherwise flat market, SONOFON consolidated its position as the second largest operator in Denmark. At the same time, Cybercity strengthened its position as the number two provider of ADSL services in the Danish broadband market.

"The next three months will be spent getting to know the organisation and on developing the strategy for Telenor's telecommunications operations in Denmark. Focus will be on furthering the positive results from the last quarters, on extracting synergies from SONOFON and Cybercity, and on continued strengthening of our profitability," said Henrik Clausen.

Henrik Clausen has served as managing director of Cybercity A/S since the summer of 2000. He was previously a partner, and a member of the European management team, of consultancy firm Andersen Consulting (currently Accenture). He is a chartered engineer and holds an MBA from INSEAD in France.
