(Fornebu, 25 May 2018) Today the General Data Protection Regulation comes into effect in Europe, which is a milestone for privacy protection, and something Telenor welcomes. GDPR ensures a predictably high level of protection for consumers, while creating consistent and flexible regulation that enables continued innovation.
Our customers’ trust lies at the heart of our business, and we view it as an undisputed success factor. Technological advantages, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and 5G, will both generate and need large amounts of data to add value. The digital society provides endless opportunities, but also a need for secure data handling. Privacy is one of Telenor’s top priorities when we develop our services.

Telenor has for the past couple of years conducted a GDPR readiness project in each of our European business units, where we have mapped all activities and made sure we have good procedures in place every step of the way in our data processing chains. In addition we have invested in internal competence and strengthened our privacy team across the markets. Being a global company, privacy is essential not only in Europe but also in Asia.
