Former Chief Marketing Officer of Ukrainian mobile company Kyivstar, Garrett Johnston has decided to leave the Telenor Group in order to pursue other business opportunities.

Garrett Johnston was recruited into Telenor in September 2003 to serve as Chief Marketing Officer in Kyivstar. A graduate of University College Dublin (Ireland), Garrett has been in the telecoms/ICT business for 15 years, working all over the world in various sales and marketing roles for a variety of blue chip service providers and solution providers before coming to Telenor. Garrett is fluent in eight languages (including Russian) and has a reasonable command of a further five (including Norwegian).

Kyivstar is a subsidiary of Norwegian telecoms group Telenor and recently passed 12 million subscribers, overtaking its largest rival, UMC, in terms of total market share in Ukraine.

"We regret that Garrett has decided to leave the Group and wish him well in his new endeavors.. Garrett and his teams have delivered truly impressive performance since he took up the duties as CMO in Kyivstar in September 2003, consistently and successfully delivering highly innovative and creative strategies and execution programs to achieve market and customer leadership, for example the launch of the highly successful djuice mobile brand in Ukraine, with over 3.5 million customers in year 1. He was a major asset to the Group and we are very sorry to lose him," says Kåre S. Gustad, Executive Vice President of Telenor International Mobile.

Garrett Johnston himself commented "I have been very lucky to have the opportunity to work for Telenor, which has been one of the most forward-looking, dynamic and globally-minded corporations I have encountered in the world, anywhere, anytime, either as an employer, customer or supplier".
