Telenor's Thai mobile operator dtac has been awarded for its highly popular mobile banking service ATM SIM. The award for "Best Mobile Money Service" was presented at the GSMA's Mobile Asia Congress gala opening in Macau on Tuesday 18 November. GSMA is the global trade association for mobile operators.

"We are honoured that our innovative 'ATM SIM' has received such recognition at this year's Asia Mobile Awards 2008. The award underlines our ongoing commitment to further develop the advanced mobile money service to bring convenience to consumers," said dtac CEO Tore Johnsen.

Enabling use of ATM services via mobile phone

ATM SIM is the joint development project of KASIKORNBANK and dtac to allow customers to make financial transactions conveniently everywhere. The SIM card innovation makes financial transactions handy for mobile users. It is Thailand's first and only service that enables customers to use ATM services via their mobile phones. Customers can check their bank balance, make transfers and payments and be informed of their payment deadlines wherever they are.

700,000 ATM SIM subscribers

The SIM guarantees the same security standard as served for other financial transaction channels of the bank but provides its subscribers with more convenient services. Currently, there are over 700,000 ATM SIM subscribers who have carried out as many as 6.8 million transactions and are transferring over 4 billion baht a month. It is believed that the number of ATM SIM subscribers will reach 1 million by the end of this year.
