Bangkok/Fornebu, 29 Oct 2018: Telenor’s Thailand operator, dtac, on Sunday announced the acquisition of a 15-year license of 2x5 MHz bandwidth of spectrum in the 900 MHz band. The announcement followed a spectrum auction arranged by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and marks a critical step in dtac’s ambition to strengthen network capacity and speed across the country.
“This is a significant milestone for dtac and for all our customers. Low-band spectrum is essential to dtac’s network and our internet services, not only for dtac customers in cities, but also for those in rural areas across the country,” said Mrs. Alexandra Reich, Chief Executive Officer, dtac.

The acquisition of 2x5 MHz bandwidth of spectrum in the 900 MHz band adds to dtac’s current spectrum holdings, including high-band 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz. In addition, dtac operates 60 MHz of 2300 MHz spectrum in partnership agreement with TOT.

As per the stipulated auction rules, the winner of the 900 MHz spectrum auction will be allowed to continue using the 850 MHz spectrum for another two years before transitioning onto the 900 MHz network.
