DnB and Telenor have agreed to form a new joint stock company with the objective of becoming Norways leading portal for net business solutions. The new company will have NOK 100 million in equity and will develop and offer a number of solutions to link traditional bank and telecom operations. Included will be new net business services via mobile telephone and other presentation media, such as viewing screen telephones and digital television. This joint project will help to accelerate the development of broadband services in Norway.
«DnB has ambitious plans for its Internet operations. That DnB, as one of Norways leading financial institutions, can now join with Telenor on several of these projects will be a great leap forward for us, not to mention our customers,» said DnB Managing Director Svein Aaser.

«As the result of a steadily converging market, Telenor is seeking new alliances in what is now emerging as the ‘new economy. The cooperation with DnB to establish a common portal for net business is a step toward development of marketplaces which will be available via mobile and multi-channel solutions. This company will greatly accelerate the development of broadband applications,» said Telenor Vice Managing Director, Jon Fredrik Baksaas.

Telenor and DnBs decision to form a new company was based on technological developments in a large number of areas, which are in the process of changing the traditional split between bank and telecommunication services. This will primarily affect the development of mobile technology and Internet.

The new company, with NOK 100 million in equity, is a 50/50 joint venture between Telenor and DnB. It will be independently run and headed by Knut Oppegaard, formerly Product Manager for Telenor Mobil. The company will be located in Oslo.

The board and management of the company will have the task of firming up the plans and the company will introduce its first services during this year. The goal is to establish Norways leading portal for net business solutions, as well as develop and offer new e-business services via presentation media, such as mobile telephones, Internet, viewing screen telephones and digital TV. The portal will offer a number of services under its own trademark, such as various pay services, news, e-shopping and mail. The goal is to develop and operate the most visited Internet portal in Norway and furthermore evaluate the potential of the international market.
