Leading Hungarian companies commit to reduce CO2 emissions on the 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility Day.

Upon Pannon's initiative, seven Hungarian large enterprises made a commitment to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions to alleviate the impact of climate change. On 1 June, 2006, the first Corporate Social Responsibility Day was organized by five companies, starting a new tradition.

Spearheading change

Pannon and its co-founders - including Ericsson, HP, Nokia, Richter and Tesco - believe that corporate social responsibility extends beyond charitable donations. For this reason, they selected climate change as the theme for this year's CSR Day and decided to spearhead change. They published a call to other Hungarian companies urging them to make a commitment to reduce their CO2 emissions.

Everyone can commit

Recommendations to help companies reduce CO2 emissions and take environmentally conscious measures have been published at Pannon's website, said Dr. Emese Majorosi, Pannon's Press & Information Director. As commitments are related to common and comparable office activities rather than participants' core business, they are suitable also for small- and medium-sized businesses or even households. Ms Majorosi asked Hungarian business leaders to adopt a responsible corporate behaviour and join forces to meet the challenges of climate change.
