100 million subscriptions

Nine times the height of Mount Everest - that is how high a stack of 100 million sim-cards reaches, although each sim-card is only 0,8 mm thick. On Monday evening, the customer who bought Telenor's subscription number 100 million was celebrated in Budapest, Hungary.

Telenor has a proven track record of successful growth in its mobile business. Only ten years ago, Telenor announced that its mobile operations had passed the one million subscribers milestone. In 1999, the international subscriber base surpassed the number of subscribers in Norway. Today, Telenor has operations in 13 countries, with a total of 100 million subscriptions.

"Reaching 100 million subscriptions within our mobile operations is a milestone for Telenor. Over the last quarters we have experienced high customer growth, and we have previously said that we expected to pass 100 million during this year. More important, Telenor is well-positioned for future growth. Our continued investments into emerging markets have given us a growth profile, excelling beyond most of our peers. The share price performance of Telenor compared to the Dow Jones European Telecom Index shows that our strategy is appreciated by the financial markets," said Telenor's President and CEO, Jon Fredrik Baksaas.

The lucky customer was Laszlo Istvan (35). He visited Pannon, Telenor's Hungarian mobile operation, on the morning of 7 September to buy Pannon's popular postpaid subscription Pannon 300, along with a new Nokia handset, and ended up with a free trip to Norway and free mobile usage for one year. On Monday evening he was congratulated by Ove Fredheim, CEO of Pannon and Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO of Telenor.

The 100 million subscriptions figure is based on 100%-figures from both consolidated and associated companies. The number of subscriptions in consolidated companies was 56.5 million at the beginning of September.
