Sigve Brekke, President and CEO of Telenor Group, is re-elected for a seat in the GSMA Board and will, from 1 January 2023, commence his fourth period with the Board addressing critical issues for the mobile industry and customers.

The GSMA, the global mobile network operator industry organisation, has elected new members to its Board for 2023 - 2024. The Board, which provides the GSMA’s membership with a stronger voice, clearer direction, and faster decision-making, consists of 26 members representing both global operators and smaller independent operators.

“The industry is at a pivotal point at the moment, and I am very excited to work with the Board as we navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead. It is more important than ever that we work together to ensure that the true potential of the mobile ecosystem benefits people, businesses, and society as a whole,” says Mats Granryd, GSMA Director General.

Critical for societal resilience

Telenor Group has had a seat on the GSMA Board since it was constituted in 2003, including the Chair of the Board from 2013 – 2016, overseeing the strategic direction of the organisation. Sigve Brekke’s upcoming Board term will be his fourth consecutive 2-year term, beginning 1 January 2023.

“Over the past few years, with a global pandemic as a backdrop, we have experienced in full force how critical digital connectivity is for societal resilience. I believe the mobile industry, championed by the GSMA, will continue to play a vital role in empowering societies, enabling a sustainable future through digitalisation, and tackling issues that both our customers and societies we operate in are facing, including challenges related to climate, inclusion, and security,” says Brekke.
