Norways leading IT and telecommunications company Telenor has established a software company specialising in telecom applications. The new company will deliver consulting services and a modern family of IT-systems both within and outside the Telenor group
Telenor Telecom Software AS was established 1st May 1998 as a limited company and a subsidiary of Telenor AS. Asbjørn Eide, former Director of the Product Division in Telenor Bedrift AS (business market unit), has been appointed Managing Director of the new company.

The company is, with its 510 employees, one of Norway's largest software companies. The headquarters are located in Oslo with regional offices in Bergen, Bodø and Lillehammer. The company also owns the Dublin-based company Telenor Research and Development Ireland.

"The global liberalisation within the telecom industry has increased the demand for software within this field. Telenor has a number of applications that we now wish to market" says Asbjørn Eide. "We will develop a modular product family based on Telenor's systems portfolio, and adapt it to the international market."

Telenor Telecom Software will initially deliver products within customer care and billing, service provisioning, billing mediation services and datawarehouse/call behaviour analysis.

Telenor will be the dominant customer the first few years, but the company will at the same time target the international market, focusing on small and medium-sized telecom operators.

The company is based on the IT-development and parts of the consulting operations in Telenor Research and Development. Telenor R&D had previously, in co-operation with Alcatel, sold billing mediation products to companies in Australia, England, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and Sweden.
