Connected Agriculture Punjab Package
As a means of scaling up substantially, m-agriculture along with its digital & financial inclusion initiatives, Telenor Pakistan and Tameer Bank recently joined the government of Punjab to initiate the Connected Agriculture Punjab Package (CAPP) for farmers.
The CAPP includes a wide array of initiatives and services to the farmers, such as interest free loans, subsidies and access to consultancy and advisory services regarding crops and fertilizers. These services will be provided through a comprehensive digital mobile platform and 125,000 smartphones will be distributed to farmers to allow access to this platform.
Irfan Wahab Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Telenor Pakistan says, “Today’s partnership with the Agriculture Department of the Government of Punjab is yet another testament to Telenor Pakistan’s long term commitment to Pakistan. As part of our vision, we are here to empower the Pakistani society and its people at every level.”
Easypaisa has been chosen to serve as the distribution channel for its financial solutions. This is due to Easypaisa’s ease of access, convenience and widespread presence across the country. It will eliminate a previously lengthy procedure and disburse the loans hassle-free.
Ali Riaz Chaudhry, President & CEO of Tameer Bank says, “It gives us immense pleasure to be part of this historic scheme to revitalize Punjab’s agriculture potential. We are bringing in Telenor Pakistan, Tameer Bank and Easypaisa’s technological infrastructure to support and expedite the government of Punjab’s interest-free loans scheme for small farmers.”
The partnership is a true testament of collective efforts established to bolster Pakistan’s standing as a major agricultural country through an increasing-nature of overall yield and productivity of crops.
