Telenor set to launch 4G in Serbia

Telenor has won two blocks in the 1800 Mhz frequency band spectrum auction in Serbia. Via the tender, Telenor Serbia has received the legal requirements to introduce 4G in the nation of more than seven million people. Telenor Serbia expects to introduce 4G services as of early May 2015.

The introduction of 4G will be implemented gradually. 4G services will be launched in urban areas first and thereafter spread to rural regions, in line with the needs of customers.

Telenor has committed to pay seven million euros for two blocks. The company has already reimbursed a deposit of RSD 1,3 million (EUR 11.000 EUR for the participation at the tender organized by RATEL, Serbia’s official regulatory body.

The number of LTE connections worldwide have more than doubled between 2013 and 2014, to around 490 million from 200 million, according to GSMA Intelligence figures. By the end of 2015, industry body GSMA expects that more than 10% of connections globally will be on LTE, with this share rising to more than three in every ten connections by 2020.
