At Telenor we are both providers and users of cutting edge technology.
Of mobile services that embrace the pace of innovation;
of Internet services that are no less than state-of-the-art;
and of rapidly evolving satellite and broadband communication networks.
As providers, we see that our technological expertise is considerable;
as users, we experience how the services we provide play an ever more
important role in our everyday lives.
And now we begin to see that our technological prodigies can all speak the same language. Mobile phones can communicate in IP, the traditional code of Internet communication. Faxes can travel on radio waves. You can phone home from your PC via IP telephony. Convergent technology is both changing how people use and think about communication and providing concrete benefits, both in the workplace, at home and when we are 'mobile.'
To a great extent, the development of convergent technology is a user-driven evolution. Users want it, providers develop it and users' lives are irreversibly altered by it. At Telenor, we are working hard to offer fully integrated products and services that erase the barriers between communications devices and access services. We can see the effects in, for example, the growth of net-banking and the new and inventive ways young people communicate with their mobile phones. Technology is a tool that changes us.
Telenor welcomes its role as an agent of change; as a united front in the development and provision of new modes of communication to our customers. From the development of the broadband service potential of the Full Service Network (FSN) to distance learning technology, from the marvels of Interactive TV to the always-on freedom of mobile Internet services, we should remain aware that convergence, in human terms, signifies unity.
