Telenor Xpress 3 - 2000

A historical view of the invention and introduction of Telenor's new technologies.

The Art of Technology

In a world increasingly dominated by faceless machines, it is sometimes hard to remember that the word “technology” comes from the Greek word technologia, meaning the systematic treatment of art.

For almost 150 years, Telenor has been inventing, refining and introducing new technologies to Norway and the world. But whatever Telenor offers, from satellite communications to WAP-enabled mobile phones, from high-speed Internet access to broadband services, the company has never lost sight of what communications technology is all about – bringing people together.

Today, Telenor is internationally recognised as a world leader in technology, serving a customer base that is among the world’s most demanding and tech-savvy. With new wonders such as interactive TV and the “Smart Kitchen” being tested in Telenor’s research and development labs, Telenor continues a tradition of technological endeavour. So while circuit boards, fibre optic cables and satellite receivers may not seem like art to most people, to the technicians at Telenor who are involved in the development of next-generation communications tools, beauty is in the eye – and ear – of the beholder.
