Telenor, OSCE and East Europe Foundation Help Slavutych City Improve Energy Efficiency
The Small Business Laboratory will develop a municipal energy management system for the city
KYIV, UKRAINE--The East Europe Foundation (EEF) announced today that it will award the Small Business Laboratory of Slavutych city with a $22,487 grant to work with local public officials to implement energy saving applications for municipal buildings.
The grant, part of EEF’s Municipal Partnerships for Better Energy Use grant program is made possible with financial support from international telecommunication company Telenor, the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
The grantee will determine appropriate measures to improve energy efficiency in the city and motivate stakeholders to take action to save energy. The project will employ local procedures to redistribute budget savings from the energy efficiency measures and train various project stakeholders. It also includes an education component in local schools, whereby the grantee will develop energy efficiency training courses for schools, including textbooks and teaching materials for teachers.
“Telenor is committed to participating in environmentally-friendly initiatives,” said Trond Moe, Country Manager of Telenor in Ukraine. “Our commitment to positive social development includes supporting both large and small projects with professional local partners in countries where we work, including Ukraine”
“We are very excited about this program that helps local governments, NGOs and enterprises form partnerships to take immediate steps to reduce energy consumption,” said EEF President Andy Wilson. “A key component of the program is significant commitment as co-financing or in-kind contributions from the grantees, local governments or other stakeholders.”
