Mobile
Telenor is the largest mobile telecommunications operator in Norway and a significant international mobile operator, with a number of operations outside Norway.
At year-end 2006, we had majority shareholdings in mobile operations in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Pakistan, as well as significant minority interests in two other international mobile operations in Russia and Austria.
Acquisitions
In accordance with our strategy of strengthening our portfolio of international mobile operations, we made the following acquisitions in 2006: Vodafone Sweden (now rebranded as Telenor) was completed on 5 January and the Serbian mobile operator Mobi 63 (now rebranded as Telenor) was completed on 31 August.
Cross-border synergies
In 2006, we successfully realised a number of cross-border synergies within our organisation. We are continuously focusing on the use of new technologies to improve service quality and reduce costs. We also continue to implement a common segmentation model that enables a more effective target market execution so we can gain greater insights about our customers globally.
Each of our mobile investments operates under its own brand and is largely responsible for local marketing initiatives. The Nordic Mobile operations are developing a shared product and service portfolio enabling a common marketing approach and swift reuse of proven concepts for our subsidiaries in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
New visual identity
In February 2006, Telenor launched a new brand. During the year, the Group’s new visual identity was adopted by eight of our international mobile operations.
Following the launch in Telenor Pakistan in 2006, our youth brand “djuice” is now being marketed in Norway, Hungary, Ukraine, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In total, there are now 10 million djuice subscriptions.
