Fixed-line
Telenor is the leading provider of fixed-line telecommunications services in Norway, with a strong position in the growing broadband market throughout Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
In Norway, we provide telecommunications solutions on a retail basis to both the residential and business markets. Solutions offered to the market include:
- Analogue (PSTN), digital fixed-line telephony services (ISDN) and broadband voice services over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
- Internet access via PSTN/ISDN and digital subscriber lines (xDSL)
- Data services
- Leased lines
We also provide telecom solutions to the Norwegian wholesale market, including interconnection to our networks and domestic and international transit and capacity services and wholesale broadband.
Glocalnet and the Swedish broadband market
On 8 February, we increased our shareholding in the Swedish residential voice and broadband provider Glocalnet AB by 13.5% and thus securing a 50.1% ownership interest in Glocalnet. The acquisition triggered a mandatory offer for all outstanding shares in Glocalnet AB and at year-end 2006, we held a 98.8% ownership interest in that company.
On 23 November, Glocalnet AB reached an agreement with Lycos Europe to acquire all of the outstanding shares in Spray Telekom AB as of 1 January,2007. The transaction is subject to approval from relevant competition authorities. We expect our market share of the Swedish broadband market to be approximately 30 per cent of the Swedish broadband market following this acquisition.
In addition, we also provide both basic and value-added fixed network telecommunication services and managed services to the business market, as well as certain wholesale services, in Sweden. We also hold a 20% ownership interest in the listed Russian telecom operator Golden Telecom.
