Telenor is founded on such basic values as responsibility, dependability and involvement. This demands a conscious and binding relationship to the impact which the Telenor Group has on the internal working environment and on the rest of society, both physically and socially.

In Telenor, active work in the fields of the working environment and the external environment is necessary to achieve increased profitability, to develop the organisation, to fulfil official requirements and to satisfy the expectations of the Group's customers and of society in general.

Approaches to problems associated with the social responsibility of the business community are subject to comprehensive focus under the description of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR[!]). Whilst traditional environmental work has been concentrated on the business's ecological footprint, CSR raises questions related to the business community's collective impact on people and society. The Triple Bottom Line[!] - to the same extent as CSR - represents the new expectations which people have of reporting by trade and industry. In addition to the financial requirements, it is expected that businesses report on their own impact on the physical environment and on the society in which they operate.

In the course of 2000, Telenor has prepared the Group's first CSR strategy. This strategy will be further developed, so that Telenor in the course of 2001 will be better equipped with respect to the Group's total social responsibility. This year's report will essentially be concerned with status and results from the specialist fields of the external environment, the working environment and ethics. For the first time, the environmental report will only be available in electronic form, but it will of course be possible to make a printout of the entire report or of parts of it as desired.
