Service Platforms
Telenor needs common service frameworks and platforms based on open standards to reduce platform costs and secure new revenues by supporting a multitude of new innovative services and achieve synergies across Telenor's operating companies.
Service platforms have evolved from IN (Intelligent Networks) systems and platforms into Service Delivery Platforms (SDP) that provide new features and capabilities. The major advances in service platforms is their ability to expose service capabilities to 3rd parties and Content Delivery capabilities that may be used for provisioning of multimedia content to e.g. mobile devices. These capabilities can open up for new opportunities to Telenor such as creating new content rich services or enable growth of business in cooperation with partners.
By exposing specific capabilities in an operator controlled manner this may:
Enable 3rd parties to utilize the connectivity provided by the Telco infrastructure
Enable 3rd parties to grow a complementary business to the operator
Generate new revenue streams for 3rd parties and operator both in the enterprise and consumer domain
The focus of the R&I efforts is to ensure the best possible evolution of Telenor's common service frameworks and service delivery platforms. The main objectives are:
- Explore which types of future services that may be developed
- Provide an open innovative arena for experimental development of advanced services for Telenor affiliates and external service providers
-
Explore business models and open interfaces and that will ensure a secure open access to the framework for 3rd party content and service providers
-
Influence on the evolution of the service framework to secure its inclusion of new service enablers and service components that are needed in future services and applications (e.g. hybrid localisation and presence technologies)
-
Influence future products and standards in cooperation with vendors and other operators to fulfil Telenor's strategic requirements for platforms and technologies
The unit consists of two competence groups.
Arena for Service Innovation
Architectures and environments, including open interfaces, that accommodate
3rd party service provider access and ensure new and innovative revenue generating
services.
Service Platform Technologies
Evaluation of technology and migration paths to ensure evolution, timing, selection
and cost efficient operation of service platforms and its services within Telenor's
diverse operations.
The PATS Innovation Lab
The research in both groups is organised around an experimental service delivery
platform, the PATS Innovation Lab which also
includes instances of CSF (Common Service Framework) environments, used for
experimentation and demonstration of future service enablers and innovative
services.
