Uninor services launched in India

Telenor Group's Indian mobile operation, Uninor, today announced the launch of its mobile services in seven Indian telecom circles, making it the largest single day launch in the telecom history. On the first day of service Uninor will cover a footprint of close to 600 million people.

Telenor will not block The Pirate Bay

The Asker and Bærum District Court today delivered its verdict on the so-called Pirate Bay case. The Court concludes that Telenor is not illegally contributing to any violation of copyrights through services offered by The Pirate Bay and that there is subsequently no basis for instructing Telenor to block admission to the website.

Telenor to replace its infrastructure for mobile services in Norway

(Oslo/Fornebu, 5 November 2009): Telenor is going to replace its entire mobile services infrastructure in Norway during the next years, with the aim of creating a flexible and cost efficient platform for mobile services. Third quarter 2009: A solid quarter

In the third quarter of 2009, Telenor's reported revenues increased by 4 per cent compared to the third quarter of 2008, reaching NOK 24.3 billion. The operating profit increased by 14 per cent to NOK 4.5 billion. Telenor's mobile operations added 4 million subscriptions during the quarter, reaching a total of 172 million.

Launching Norway’s biggest campaign against digital bullying

Today the Red Cross, ChildMinder, Telenor and the Norwegian Media Authority launched Norway's biggest ever campaign against digital bullying. During the next three months, 50 lower secondary schools, 7,500 pupils and 3,500 parents will be visited by the "Use your Head" tour, which is intended to prevent digital bullying by spreading information about how parents and children should handle digital bullying situations.

Kyivstar dividends for 2008 approved

An Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) of Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar, on 1 September 2009 approved the company's accounts for the fiscal year 2008. Based on this the EGMS decided to distribute dividends in the total amount of UAH 1.9 billion (approximately NOK 1.4 billion). Dividends are expected to be paid in full within 20 December 2009.

Nordea signs telephony agreement with Telenor

Nordea Bank Norge ASA and Telenor have entered into a three-year contract for a new telephony solution. The Russian Bailiff on Friday 19 June said that it had passed an order to auction Telenor's shares and that the parties are in the process of being notified. On request from Telenor's lawyers for further information, the Bailiff's office says it will not comment on the matter until Monday.

Tyumen court adjourns Telenor’s appeal to 30 September 2009

On June 10, 2009, the Federal Arbitrazh (Business) Court of the West Siberian District in Tyumen adjourned the hearing of Telenor's appeal until 30 September 2009. Telenor East Invest AS has appealed the ruling of 20 February 209 by the Appeals Court in Omsk, forcing Telenor East Invest AS to pay 1.73 billion USD to VimpelCom as a result of a claim by Farimex Products Inc., the holder of ADRs equal to 0.002 per cent of VimpelCom shares. Today's hearing was to start after an adjournment of the Tyumen court from 26 May this year.

On May 26, 2009, the Federal Arbitrazh (Business) Court in Tyumen, Siberia adjourned until 10 June 2009 the court proceedings concerning the appeal by Telenor East Invest AS of a 2 March 2009 ruling by the Appeals Court in Omsk on grounds that third parties were not duly notified. The ruling mandated that $1.73 billion should be collected from Telenor East Invest AS as a result of a claim by Farimex Products Inc., the holder of ADRs equal to 0.002 per cent of VimpelCom shares.

Farimex attacks Telenor also in Ukraine

Farimex, reputed from attacking Telenor's investments in the Russian mobile operator VimpelCom, is also behind an investigation launched by the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) against Telenor and Kyivstar. Telenor was officially notified of the commenced investigation on 7 May this year. Farimex Products is registered on the British Virgin Islands and claims to hold ADRs representing a 0.002 per cent stake in VimpelCom.

Stay of enforcement denied – Telenor will continue to oppose any attempt to sell its shares in VimpelCom

On April 28, 2009, the Federal Arbitrazh Court of the West Siberian District in Tyumen upheld its denial to stay enforcement of the $1.73 billion damages awarded against Telenor East Invest AS. The court heard a complaint by Telenor East Invest AS against a previous denial of its request by the same court. The damages award was decided by the Eighth Arbitrazh Appellate Court in Omsk at the suit of Farimex Products, Inc., a holder of ADRs for 0.002% of VimpelCom shares.

Telenor and Tele2 to build joint 4G network in Sweden

Telenor Sweden and Tele2 Sweden today announced an agreement to build a joint 4G network in Sweden. The agreement includes the formation of a joint venture for network construction and sharing of spectrum for mobile communication. The roll-out of what will be Sweden's most extensive 4G network will start this year with the intent of launching high-speed mobile broadband services based on LTE-technology in the end of 2010, while at the same time improving voice coverage (GSM) for all customers.

Alfa Held in Contempt for Second Time by US Court; Telenor’s VimpelCom Shares Arrested in Russia

A US federal court in New York yesterday held four Alfa Group companies in contempt for the second time for their failure to comply with the court's orders confirming the Kyivstar arbitration award. Shortly after the hearing ended, Telenor heard rumours that a Russian bailiff acting on behalf of Farimex Product, Inc. had arrested all of Telenor's shares in Russian mobile operator VimpelCom. This was confirmed this morning.

Telenor Has Appealed The Omsk Court Decision in Farimex Case

(Fornebu, Norway and Moscow, Russia) - March 4, 2009. Telenor has filed a cassation appeal of the decision of the Eighth Appellate Arbitrazh Court in Omsk ordering Telenor to pay US$1.7 billion in connection with the claim made by Farimex Products, Inc. Telenor's appeal will be heard by the Federal Arbitrazh Court for the West Siberian District, located in Tyumen. Farimex has alleged that Telenor caused losses to VimpelCom by delaying VimpelCom's acquisition of loss-making Ukrainian mobile operator, Ukrainian Radio Systems (URS), and has demanded the payment to be made.

Telenor Will Continue To Defend Its Investment in VimpelCom

(Fornebu, Norway and Omsk, Russia - 20 February 2009) Telenor has said it will appeal today's decision of the Eighth Arbitrazh Appellate Court in Omsk holding Telenor liable for approximately US$1.7 billion in damages. The Omsk court has heard from the start the claim by Farimex Products, Inc., a British Virgin Islands company, against Telenor, in which Farimex alleged that Telenor's nominees on the VimpelCom Board delayed VimpelCom's acquisition of Ukrainian mobile operator Ukrainian Radio Systems (URS). Despite the fact that the claims against Telenor are baseless and unlawful, the Court decided to grant Farimex's claims in part.

Top Management Nominated at Unitech Wireless

The Indian mobile operator Unitech Wireless today announced the signing of tower sharing agreements with Wireless-TT Info Service Limited (Tata Teleservices' tower company) and Quippo Telecom Infrastructure Limited. In addition, an agreement for the provision of transmission has been entered into with Tata Teleservices. These agreements are key components in the process of completing the transaction in which Telenor will take a 60 percent stake in Unitech Wireless.

Presentation of Telenor’s fourth quarter results 2008

Telenor signs Nordic agreement with the Reitan group

(Fornebu, 2 February 2009) The Reitan group and Telenor have signed a five-year Nordic cooperation agreement covering Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Over its lifetime, the agreement is worth approximately NOK 250 million and strengthens Telenor's position in the Nordic market.

Telenor signs new agreement for the provision of telecommunication services to DSS

DSS has, on behalf of 16 ministries and the Office of the Prime Minister, chosen Telenor as the provider of fixed and mobile traffic. In total, the contract is worth approximately NOK 11 million annually.
