Marked increase in the use of phone and video conferences

Telenor has noted a great increase in the use of phone and video conferences this autumn. These conference formats have seen an increase in use of about 30 per cent from September to November this year compared with the same period last year.

Demand high for broadband from Telenor

Over the past few months demand for high-speed Internet based on ADSL has increased substantially. Today, 25 000 consumers have ADSL and this is an increase of 14 000 since the end of September. Telenor Plus has delivered ADSL to customers in all Norwegian counties and by the end of the year half of all Telenor's telephony customers will have access to ADSL.

1881: New number for Telenor’s directory services from February 15, 2002

Telenor's directory services, Opplysningen 180, will be given a new number from February 15, 2002. The new number will be 1881. The present number, 180, will be closed down as of May 1, next year.

Telenor Mobil fined by Norwegian authorities

Telenor Mobil has been fined NOK 2 million by Økokrim, the Norwegian authority for economic and environmental crime investigation and prosecution. In addition to the fine, a sum of NOK 8 million will be seized as a result of an alleged violation of telecom legislation. The fine is based on extended market support from Telenor Mobil to Telenor Business Solutions during the late 1990s. This support was neither made public nor offered to other companies. Deficiencies in the international pricing system made it less expensive for Telenor Business Solutions' competitors to route calls via foreign countries rather than directly between customers in Norway. Telenor considered it inexpedient for Telenor Business Solutions to direct its calls through foreign countries. Telenor Business Solutions was therefore given compensation for not exploiting the deficiencies in the international pricing system. Telenor does not concur that legislation has been violated, and will consider closely whether to accept the fine.

Telenor to consolidate company structure

Telenor continues to co-ordinate the company's legal and operational structure. Business in the holding company Telenor ASA has been divided into three areas: core activities, related activities and other activities. The business areas defined as core activity will be organised as holding companies for their respective subsidiaries. The legal structure will thus correspond with the structure already familiar to the public. A number of merger and demerger announcements have therefore formally been filed with the registry at Brønnøysund in Norway. The notifications will also be published in print (Norsk Lysningsblad).

Telenor opens third generation mobile network

On Saturday, December 1st, Telenor Mobil will open its third generation mobile network in accordance with the terms and conditions of the license agreement set by the authorities. Telenor Mobil's UMTS network will initially cover central areas of Oslo with a population of approximately 200,000.

The move to Fornebu

On Monday, November 26, Telenor begins the first phase of its move to its new headquarters at Fornebu. By the end of 2002, more than 7,500 Telenor employees will have one of Norway's leading IT centres, located at the country's former national airport on the outskirts of Oslo, as their new working address. The move also signals the start of the consolidation of the remainder of Telenor's activities within the Oslo region.

Schibsted, Telenor and Telia have signed an agreement to sell their shares in Scandinavia Online AB to Eniro AB for SEK 11.50 per share in cash. Combined the three owners control 76 percent of the share capital in Scandinavia Online AB.

As of November 1, Norwegians will be able to switch from one mobile company to another without having to change phone numbers. Customers wishing to change to Telenor need only contact Telenor Mobil. Telenor Mobil will complete the process and cancel the previous subscription. The procedure takes only seven working days to complete.

Telenor 3rd-quarter results

Telenor's activities during the first nine months of 2001 were marked by continued growth. Operating revenues were 10.7 per cent higher than during the same period last year. Profit for the first nine months was NOK 9.5 billion, before tax and minority interests. There is still strong growth in revenues and profits from Telenor's Norwegian mobile business. Telenor's traditional fixed-line services also showed a positive underlying profit performance.

Telenor signs final agreement on Pannon acquisition

Telenor, through its mobile arm Telenor Mobile , has signed a definitive share purchase agreement to acquire 100 per cent of Hungary's second largest mobile operator, Pannon GSM Rt. (Pannon GSM). On completion of the transaction with the Dutch Telecommunications Company KPN, Finland's Sonera, and Denmark's Tele Danmark Communications (TDC), Telenor will increase its holding in Pannon GSM from 25.78 per cent to 100 per cent.

Less expensive to call abroad with Telenor

Telenor lowers prices on calls from fixed-line telephones to mobile phones

Nextra “superhub” to host Oracle e-business platform and applications for medium to large sized companies across Europe

Nextra, a Telenor company, today launched a joint hosting initiative with Oracle, the world's largest provider of software for e-business. Effective immediately, Nextra will host the entire Oracle software platform - including the database, application server and E-Business Suite of software applications - from its highly secure "superhub" data centres in Norway, Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

Telenor introduces price structure for Wireless Internet Zone

On October 1, Telenor will introduce two alternative ways in which to charge for the use of the Wireless Internet Zone (WLAN) service. One of these price models involves the customer paying according to the volume of data transmitted. The other method of payment is adapted to be used with WLAN cards that may be leased at hotels and conference establishments and allows for unlimited usage within a limited period of time.

Telenor cuts use of consulting services and hired personnel

Telenor has with immediate effect decided to cut heavily the use of consulting services and other hired personnel. Business is to be carried out through own employees and only strictly necessary consulting services may be engaged. The aim is to reduce the expense level related to consulting services and hired personnel within the whole of the Telenor Group by NOK 750 to one billion by the end of 2002.

The Danish Telecom Agency today announced the four licenses for third generation mobile telephony systems, UMTS, in Denmark. Telenor was not among the companies which was awarded a license.

Telenor’s offer in DiGi, Malaysia, successfully closed

Telenor has received acceptances totalling 483 million shares on its partial take-over offer in the Malaysian telecommunications company DiGi. This represents 64 per cent of the outstanding shares in DiGi. The offer was closed at 5 p.m. local Malaysian time on August 26.

Telenor’s first-half results for 2001: Continued satisfactory growth

Telenor's business during the first half of 2001 continued to grow strongly. Revenues, excluding gains, increased by 13.8 per cent during the first six months of the year to NOK 19.806 billion. EBITDA excluding gains and losses increased by NOK 4.494 billion (five per cent) compared to the same period last year. An exceptionally strong pre-tax profit of approximately NOK 12 billion was strongly influenced by sales gains and write-downs.

Telenor to sell its stake in North-West GSM, St. Petersburg

Telenor has signed an agreement to sell its 12.74 % share of Russian mobile operator North-West GSM to Telia and Sonera. North-West GSM has approximately 300.000 subscribers, mainly in St. Petersburg and the surrounding area.

Telenordia accepts UMTS ruling

The board of directors of Telenordia has decided not to appeal the Swedish court's decision not to award the company a UMTS, or third generation mobile telephone licence. The court found no grounds to repeal the Post and Telecommunications Authority (PTS) decision concerning the granting of UMTS licences in the Swedish market.

Telenor and Canal+ sign agreement on Canal Digital AS

The Canal + Group and Telenor have decided to reorganise the relationship in the Nordic countries. Telenor has acquired the remaining 50% stake in Canal Digital AS from Canal+ for a consideration of NOK 2.4 billion (approx. EUR 300 million), of which NOK 500 million (approx. EUR 63 million) is a deferred payment. Canal+ and Telenor have also signed a long-term exclusive distribution agreement for Canal+' premium pay-TV channels and the Kiosk pay-per-view service on Canal Digital's platform.

Nextra AS, which is a part of Telenor Business Solutions, has signed an agreement with the organisers of the Volvo Ocean Race sailing race for the management of their website. New CEO at Telenordia

Telenor International Centre's regional director, Leiv Svenning, has been appointed CEO of Telenordia in Sweden. Svenning is replacing Erik Heilborn who has stepped down on his own initiative. Heilborn has been employed in Telenordia for six years, the last two and half years as CEO.

Telenor seeking to acquire control of DiGi in Malaysia

Telenor, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Telenor Asia Pte. Ltd., today announced that it is seeking to increase its shareholdings in DiGi.Com Berhad ("DiGi"). Telenor presently holds 247 million ordinary shares in DiGi, or approximately 32.9 percent. Free ISDN Turbo from Telenor

Telenor is now giving its ISDN customers up to twice as fast Internet surfing, for free. Telenor’s djuice (TM) becomes mobile service provider in Sweden

Telenor Mobile Communications has, through its subsidiary Zalto Communications AS, signed an agreement with Europolitan Vodafone to become a service provider in the Swedish market. Telenor will launch and promote a new mobile subscription for young people bearing the brand name djuice(TM).

Telenor Vision extends cable-TV activity in Sweden

. Telenor Vision has purchased 91 percent of Seth's Kabel TV Förvaltning i Sverige AB, and 49 percent of Seth's BIT.com AB which, among others, includes the subsidiary company Seth's Antenn & Teleteknik. Jon Bing wins Telenor research prize

Telenor’s ONP Report for 2000

The ONP Report shows Telenor's annual returns derived from those products subject to concession. In 2000 the yields for fixed telephony and leased lines were at a similar level to 1999 while yields on mobile telephony were somewhat higher.

Telenor and SMART AB initiate a comprehensive ASP collaboration

Today Telenor Business Solutions and SMART AB, Northern Europe's leading company in electronic sales and distribution of travel services, entered into a collaboration agreement. Telenor Business Solutions is to develop an Application Service Provider (ASP) solution that SMART will then offer its Nordic travel agency customers at the beginning of next year. In addition, Telenor Business Solutions will take over the operation of SMART's central computer solution; an agreement with a market value of approx. NOK 200 million.

Telenor to provide satellite communication for NATO’s peace keeping operations

Telenor has been awarded a contract for the installation and operation of a satellite communication system connecting NATO headquarters in Brussels with NATO's peace keeping forces in Kosovo (KFOR) and Bosnia Herzegovina (SFOR). The contract's estimated value is approximately NOK 140 million for a period of three years. The network serving 17 locations with satellite and microwave communication will be in operation by the end of 2001.

Telenor and BT agree on future ownership in Telenordia

Telenor and British Telecom (BT), who each presently own 50% of Telenordia, have entered into an agreement whereby Telenor will take over the company in Sweden. At the same time, BT will establish a new company which will build further on Telenordia's activities and supply CONCERT services (international calling and data communications). By doing this, Telenor is also released from their shareholder agreement with BT and can be a more active player in the Swedish market.

Telenor and VimpelCom to form new strategic partnership with Alfa Group for expansion of Russian mobile operations

Under an agreement signed today, Telenor and VimpelCom are forming a new strategic partnership with Eco Telecom (part of the Alfa Group of companies in Russia) to accelerate the planned regional expansion of VimpelCom's mobile operation in Russia. Eco Telecom will acquire strategic stakes in VimpelCom and its wholly-owned subsidiary, VimpelCom-Region, for a total of USD 220 million. Telenor will maintain its strategic voting stake of 25 percent plus one vote in VimpelCom through share purchases of USD 24,7 mill.

Telenor Media becomes the second biggest directory publisher in France

djuice, Telenor's mobile Internet portal, has signed an agreement with Telecom Mobile Ltd. in New Zealand to become the operator's mobile Internet portal. Telenor and EDB Business Partner have today entered into a letter of intent with the bank DnB - Den norske Bank regarding the acquisition and management of the bank's total operations regarding information and communication technology (ICT). for the parties involved, this represents a combined turnover amounting to NOK 3.0 billion over a 5-year period.

Record Profits for Telenor_73

During the first quarter of 2001, the Telenor Group achieved record pre-tax profits amounting to NOK 10,666 million, derived from profits from the sale of the group's interests in VIAG Interkom. Telenor's operations during the first quarter were characterised by continued strong growth. Allowing for sales gains, operating revenues increased by NOK 1,407 million, or 16.9 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.

Telenor adds almost two million mobile phone numbers to Internet telephone directory

It is now possible to search for mobile phone numbers on the Internet, free of charge. Telenor Media has made 1.9 million mobile numbers available on the website Telefonkatalogen.no. Altogether it is now possible to search in 5.6 million records in the Internet telephone directory.

Widerøe Flyveselskap enters into ASP contract with Telenor

Telenor Business Solutions has entered into a three-year contract with Widerøe Flyveselskap to take over management of the company's IT systems. The contract will be based on ASP (Application Service Provider) technology. This entails that Telenor Business Solutions will take over operational responsibility for the IT systems used by 1200 employees and 33 offices and stations in Norway with a solution that will encompass around 750 ASP connection points.

Sale of ESAT stake

Telenor has completed its sale of its 49.5 per cent stake in Esat Digifone, and the transaction was settled according to notice of 06.02.01. The proceeds from the sale was about NOK 10,8 billion, providing an accounting profit of approx. NOK 10,1 before tax. After the settlement, Telenors net interest bearing debt is approximately NOK 10 billion.

Nextra and GRIC offer roaming service in over 90 countries

Nextra, the Telenor owned pan-European communication service provider (CSP) has joined forces with remote access provider GRIC Communications, in an effort to make global remote Internet solutions available to business customers worldwide. This service enables a user to connect to any network (including the Internet), using a local connection from anywhere in the world. The high quality, fast connections will be charged at low local rates and can be coupled with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to create a secure remote connection to a company Intranet. The main advantages to a customer are significant cost savings in addition to high mobility.

Telenor transmits two Chinese TV-channels in Europe

ColourSat, a business unit within Telenor Broadband Services, shall distribute two Chinese TV-channels via satellite to TV-viewers all over Europe. The two channels, CCTV-4 and CCTV-9, will be added to ColourSat's rapidly expanding line-up of multi-cultural and thematic channels. CCTV-4 and CCTV-9 will be distributed via Telenor's satellite platform on 1 degree west (1°W). Both channels are available today for viewing in Europe and will be encrypted and commercially launched in October 2001.

Telenor introduces share-based option schemes for employees and management

The board of Telenor ASA has decided to introduce an option scheme for management and key personnel, as well as a share scheme for employees. The schemes are to be implemented to ensure activities focus on the shareholder and to make it easier for Telenor to recruit and retain capable management and other key personnel. The entire option scheme will involve an annual distribution of some 3,000,000 share options.

Telenor to Acquire COMSAT Mobile Communications from Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications

Telenor reduces mobile rates

Telenor to sell Norcom Networks to Wireless Matrix

Telenor Mobile Communications AS (TMC) has signed an agreement to sell Norcom Networks Corporation (of which TMC owns approximately 90 percent) to the Canadian listed company Wireless Matrix Corporation. Consideration for the transaction is a maximum of 15,461,647 common shares of Wireless Matrix, which number of shares may be reduced in the discretion of Wireless Matrix through the payment of up to $18 million USD in cash.

Telenor carries out price reductions, but postpones start-up subscription price hikes

Telenor will carry out the notified price reductions as of the new year, but will postpone the planned price hikes for start-up subscriptions for fixed lines and mobile networks until 1 March of this year. In this way, Telenor will comply with the Norwegian requirement of a two-month prior notice for price increases.
