Swedish women rank highest in making the most of the mobile experience

Telenor Sweden recently conducted a Nordic Mobility Report in order to learn more about how Swedish women use mobile technologies, comparing their habits with Swedish men and women in other parts of Scandinavia.

The study showed that Swedish women have a more mobile lifestyle than Swedish men. They are also the best in Scandinavia in utilizing the opportunities that mobile technology offers, such as greater use of the mobile phone in their work life or when conducting errands.

Women enjoy a mobile working life

“To be constantly connected and utilize technologies is very much taken for granted today, both at work and at home. Our study shows that women use the Internet for socializing, entertainment and a mobile way of working to a greater extent than men,” said Georgi Ganev, Business Area Manager Consumer, Telenor Sweden.

Nearly half of women surveyed use social networks to maintain contacts

According to the study, nearly half of all women use social networks to maintain contact with her acquaintances, compared to only one third of the men. The survey also showed that women use mobile technologies to strike a good work-life balance and manage their everyday chores.

Swedish women also rank highest (68%) within the Nordic countries when it comes to using their mobile phones as a way to take control over the decision of when and where to work. The equivalent figure for Swedish men is 56 per cent.

Overview of Telenor Sweden’s findings

  • Nearly half of Swedish women keep in touch with their circle of friends through social media, compared with 30 percent of the men.
  • 68 percent of the Swedish women use mobile and laptop to manage the work life balance, as compared to 56 percent of the men. It is slightly higher than in Denmark and Norway, and significantly higher than in Finland.
  • 79 percent of Swedish women use services onĂ‚ Internet to conduct everyday errands, the corresponding figure for Swedish men is 75 percent.
  • 65 percent of Swedish women believe that being connected to Internet is more useful today than it was two years ago.

About Nordic Mobility Report

Nordic Mobility Report was first published in 2009 and aims to annually examine the needs and requirements of mobility in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. The latest report was conducted in collaboration with the research firm Norstat in March 2010, and comprises three different groups in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland:

  • Decision makers of mobile telephony in enterprises with 30 employees or more (800 interviews, 200 per country).
  • Users of company-paid mobile phones (2000 interviews, 500 per country).
  • Individuals with a self-paid mobile phones (2400 interviews, 600 per country).
