Uninor introduces dynamic pricing for Indian subscribers

Article:

Uninor customers can now cross the street and save with the 24x7 Badalta Discount Plan. Dynamic pricing is a way to put the customer in control of the costs, allowing them to take advantage of favourable network conditions.

Putting the customer in control

Uninor’s new pricing plan gives customers discounts based on their location, time of day and the amount of network traffic. Discounts change on an hourly basis at any given location, and customers are alerted to their total savings upon completion of a call.

Uninor believes that this method of dynamic pricing will one day become an industry standard. This concept adds an element of excitement to the relatively routine task of placing a call, and allows the customer to be more involved in what they pay per call. Uninor is the first mobile operator in India to offer dynamic pricing.

“Customers first and then technology that makes it happen. We make a strong demonstration of this guiding principle with the launch of dynamic pricing,” said Stein-Erik Vellan, Managing Director, Uninor.

How it works

Uninor’s dynamic pricing is available at any given time, and will be visible at all times on the screens of handsets that display cell broadcast. The discount that is displayed on the screen at the time of a call will be applied throughout the call. When the call ends, the discounted cost will appear on the screen.

Discounts are calculated by a sophisticated ‘Discount Engine’ that relies on state-of-the-art IT systems to continuously monitor traffic at every tower in the network.

For customers, this could literally mean discounts changing from 5 percent to 60 percent, just by changing locations or waiting to place a call. Over time, the customer savings could be considerable.

A game changer

Uninor is not known to follow the pack when it comes to their customer offerings in India. Rather than investing resources in celebrity endorsements and adhering to pricing norms in the region, they have instead decided to innovate for the benefit of their customers.

“In a market this competitive, differentiation will be the key to success. We will do this by listening closely to our customers’ wishes and living our values of simplicity, respect, keeping promises and being inspiring. Our intent is long-term – to build Uninor as the preferred service in India,” concluded Vellan.
