Telenor supports Thai Red Cross flood relief efforts

Telenor Group has donated two million baht to the Thai Red Cross Society to help rebuild local communities affected by the recent floods in Thailand.

The donation was presented by Telenor Group President and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas to Professor Damrong Reinprayoon, Director of the Volunteers Bureau, the Thai Red Cross Society, in connection with Telenor’s 10-year anniversary in Thailand.

Since the beginning of October, nearly six million residents in 42 provinces across the country have been affected by the floods. The contribution will support the Thai Red Cross’s rehabilitation efforts in various parts across the country.

“Over the last ten years Telenor Group has developed a close bond with Thai society. The vast destruction caused by the floods is something that affects us all. At Telenor Group CR we are very pleased to be able to contribute to the vital relief efforts of the Thai Red Cross Society,” said Mai Oldgard, Vice President and Head of Group Corporate Responsibility.

dtac, Telenor’s partner in Thailand, has also initiated several relief efforts to aid flood victims. Apart from donations to public and private relief funds, dtac set up an onsite food centre to serve as 24-hour emergency food supply in heavily affected areas in a southern province of Thailand. It also gave away prepaid phone cards and offered free-of-charge credit value to affected customers.

“We are glad to do our part in this time of crisis and hope that our small contribution will help some local communities recover from the damages. We are also proud to see dtac’s active contributions to the Thai society, both in good and bad times,” added Hilde Tonne, Deputy Head of Telenor Group, Region Asia.
