Telenor Montenegro wins national CSR award
Article:
Telenor's mobile phone recycling campaign "Old phone, new life" was selected the best national project in Montenegro and presented the Iskra ("Spark") award last Friday.
“I am very proud that our efforts to contribute to the development of Montenegrin society have been recognized. We are striving to give our best through enabling access for underserved groups, offering safe products and services, and fighting against climate change,” said CEO Christopher Laska upon receiving the award at the Royal Theatre Zeta house, in Cetinje, the old Montenegrin capital.
Iskra honors effective non-profit activities
The “Iskra” award, established last year, recognizes the efforts of companies and individuals who have shown effectiveness in supporting non-profit activities for the common good. It is the only award of its kind in Montenegro.
“I would like to congratulate Telenor Montenegro on this award. I am proud to see that Telenor’s corporate responsibility initiatives are relevant and appreciated in the local communities. With “Old phone, new life”, Telenor Montenegro shows how we can make a difference in local communities. The project also offers a great example of how Telenor Group-wide initiatives can be successfully adapted to local needs,” says Mai Oldgard, Head of Group Corporate Responsibility.
Old phone, new life
The awarded project “Old phone, new life” encourages customers and Montenegrin citizens to recycle their old mobile phones. For every recycled phone, Telenor Montenegro sets aside one euro, using the collected amount of money to support diverse national environmental protection projects in co-operation with Institute for Maritime Biology, the Natural History Museum of Montenegro and the Forest Management Institution.
Motivation for future
“I can promise that we will work even harder in the future to contribute to the good of all of us. This award definitely gives us a strong wind on our backs,” said Christopher Laska, as he thanked the people of Montenegro who participated in recycling project and the awards committee for recognizing Telenor’s efforts.
