Keeping the climate in mind at dtac

Article:

dtac is making the fight against climate change a priority. They are taking action through a number of programmes, designed to engage the entire company.

“We have a policy to do good deeds every day, and through our corporate responsibility activities to prevent climate change, we are doing just that,” said Mr. Perapong Klinla-or, Vice President and Head of Corporate Responsibility at dtac. “We firmly believe that through our Battery for Life, Shred2Share and reforestation/irrigation projects, we can do our share in saving the environment.”

Here’s a look at how dtac is helping the environment:

Battery for Life

Since 2008, dtac has worked with the Robinson Department Store franchise in Thailand to collect expired mobile phone batteries. Once collected, these batteries are recycled. In the first quarter of 2010 alone, more than 30,000 batteries were collected. Combined with the 24,000 batteries collected in 2009, the result is in a reduction of 2,925 kilograms of C02 emissions in the environment.

Shred2Share

What appears to be a simple paper recycling policy is actually a programme that supports education for children in Thailand. For every ton of paper recycled in the Shred2Share intitiative, dtac’s partner InfoZafe will donate 2,000 baht to an education fund for children. In 2009, dtac collected nearly 13,000 kilograms of paper.

Reforestation and irrigation

In 2008, dtac joined a reforestation project with the Royal Thai Army to honour the King of Thailand. The goal of this initiative is to plant one million trees by 2012. dtac is also working with the Border Patrol Police to develop irrigation dams in certain regions, as a way to prevent water scarcity during the dry seasons. So far, more than 35,000 irrigation dam units have been installed.
