Grameenphone’s house for inspiration and empowerment
Article:
GPHouse, the new headquarters of Grameenphone, was formally inaugurated on 23 November, 2010. The environmentally-friendly new building will inspire and nurture the company's "stay close" way of working.
“GPHouse aims to be a workplace that nurtures creativity, flexibility, innovation and transparency in its design. The building architecture inspires and empowers employees through its open spaces and open seating arrangement for all,” said Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO of Telenor Group. “GPHouse and the work environment it represents is an important tool for Grameenphone in their continued efforts to develop new products and services for the Bangladeshi people.”
A transparent and efficient work environment
The architecture of the new Grameenphone headquarters symbolizes the futuristic vision of the company. GPHouse supports Grameenphone and Telenor Group’s work philosophy of an inclusive work environment. By creating open workspaces that allow employees to work when and where they want, Grameenphone enables better communications between co-workers, increases efficiency and ensures transparency.
First truly environmental office building in Bangladesh
The new headquarters also reflects Grameenphone’s mission to go green, as it is the first truly environmentally-friendly building in Bangladesh. The company has made investments that secure the production of its own electricity, recycling of water and intelligent lighting. Similarly, GP has chosen energy-efficient building materials.
GPHouse has also been enriched as a contemporary art hub with art work and installations from 35 leading and emerging Bangladeshi artists. These works of art address the spirit and ideas from both local Bangladesh heritage and global aesthetics.
Baksaas discusses the need for an investor-friendly regulatory regime
In conjunction with the GPHouse inauguration, Telenor Group CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas also met with the Bangladeshi Minister of Finance, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, and representatives from Bangladeshi media. During these meetings he stressed the need for a stable, investor-friendly regulatory regime to aid the development of the telecom sector in Bangladesh.
“With the ambition of connecting all of Bangladesh, the Telenor Group expects that the Bangladeshi authorities will establish clear and fair rules for license renewal and for the upcoming 3G license process, and that the regulatory framework should encourage operators to build quality services, and secure good coverage in rural areas of Bangladesh to benefit all Bangladeshi citizens,” said Baksaas.
