New tunes from Telenor

Article:

For the first time in Europe, a chain of music stores, a telecom company and a mobile entertainment developer team up to create a new online music store in Norway.

Launched in May 2009, the new online music store is a partnership between Telenor/djuice, the biggest distributor of music in Norway Platekompaniet and mobile content provider Aspiro.

A strong, three-headed partnership

“A partnership between a telco, a technical solutions provider and a traditional chain of music stores is unique in a European context. We will be able to provide customers with services that are far better than the ones existing in the digital market,” said Thang Manh Tran. He heads the djuice/Telenor part of the project. Telenor Norway and its youth portal djuice have provided solutions for digital music distribution since 2004 and are market-leading on music distribution to mobile phones.

No copying restrictions

At the music store, customers can download high quality MP3 files without any copying restrictions (DRM). Once bought, the music can be used freely on any PC, Mac, MP3 player or mobile phone.

Local touch

The aim of the new Telenor online music store is to offer people a unique service that focuses on the local market and local music, in this case Norway. The store therefore offers a wide selection of music, ranging from oldies and previously unavailable underground music to the latest Eminem album.

Launching new artists

Unsigned artists will have the opportunity to upload songs to our pages. In this way, artists and bands get the opportunity to market and sell their music at the Telenor store. This brings the store closer to the public as well as the artist, and hopefully it will bring new talents to the scene.

Special offers

The prices will be equal to, or better than our competitors’, with campaigns, special offers and bargains similar to what the Platekompaniet music store is renowned for.

Streaming services

Platekompaniet and Telenor/djuice are considering various forms of music distribution and business models. Subscription is one of them; i.e. offering customers access to millions of songs for a fixed monthly fee. Platekompaniet, Telenor and Aspiro will carry out beta tests for such a service in late June 2009.
