"Our research activities have contributed significantly to Telenor's development over the last 40 years," said Telenor Chief Executive Jon Fredrik Baksaas at R&I's 40th anniversary at the Telenor Headquarters on Tuesday.

Innovation is to utilise knowledge to achieve results. Telenor is a company with long traditions. For more than 150 years, Telenor has had innovation on top of its agenda. This week, as part of Telenor R&I’s 40th anniversary, Telenor staged a seminar on innovation with nearly 200 representatives of industry and commerce, government officials and other guests.

A driver of innovation

Representing the Norwegian Government and thus Telenor’s largest owner, state secretary Rikke Lind from the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry lauded Telenor for their achievements in her speech. Emphasising the government’s high ambitions in the field of research and innovation, she said that Telenor has played a key role as one of the drivers of innovation in Norway.

Industrial pioneer

Addressing a packed auditorium, Telenor Chief Executive, Jon Fredrik Baksaas emphasised the instrumental role of innovation:

“It is largely due to our strong focus on innovation, that Telenor is a leading global mobile operator and an industrial pioneer in Norway.”

Health services in Bangladesh

Combined, the Telenor Group invests more than NOK 1.5 billion annually on innovation. These investments have spawned numerous new exciting projects.

The Community Information Centres (CICs) in Pakistan and Bangladesh are fine examples of this. These centres provide the local population with access to the Internet and thereby a range of services, such as employment opportunities, health services and the full potential of the world’s largest library. Such access is secured through a combination of the PC and the mobile phone. See links for more information.
