Telenor Hungary has launched an exciting new service especially developed for the Hungarian market combining the best of live TV shows, re-runs, and an extensive film catalogue. Telenor customers can use this service on up to 4 devices (PC/laptop, smartphone, tablet) with a single subscription both via Telenor’s superfast Hipernet 4G or their home Wi-Fi.
Setting new industry standards
“We are setting new standards in the entertainment industry in Hungary. Our customers can watch what they want, where they want and when they want in high quality. It was a great honour for us that Andy Vajna, an iconic figure of the Hollywood film industry and currently Chairman of the National Film Fund in Hungary, attended our launch events and spoke very highly of our new service,” says Christopher Laska, CEO of Telenor Hungary.
“We are very proud that MyTV is a service uniquely developed for Hungary by our internal experts with the help of UUX, a US-based company. We have beaten our competitors and will continuously improve our service and extend our offerings based on customers’ feedback,” says Zoltán Takács, Chief Digital Services Officer of Telenor Hungary. “In addition, the service is free of charge until the end of February and we do not even invoice customers for the data traffic generated by MyTV. Telenor Hungary will finalize the customers’ commercial offer based on the customers’ experience during the trial period.”
Successful launch event
Exceeding all expectations, on 30 November, one day after the launch, 2000 customers downloaded the application. Customer feedback has been very positive, more than half of the Facebook comments over the weekend on Telenor Hungary’s FB page praised the new service and some people contacted the customer service only to express their gratitude for this innovation.
From launch, MyTV offers 14 live TV channels in 3 packages (Explorer, Family, Movie). With the built in re-run service, customers can watch TV programs from 3 to 7 days ago. At the launch, the service offers more than 2000 hours daily refreshed premium on demand content such as FIFA World Cup ’14, Formula-1, Bones, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Desperate Housewives, Californication, Gordon Ramsay – Hell’s Kitchen.
The “blue carpet” Hollywood-style launch party at the Telenor headquarters proved to be an enormous success among corporate customers and stakeholders from the media and entertainment industry. “I have never seen a company launching a service in such an elegant way involving the right mix of entertainment and corporate stuff,” said Hungarian film producer, Tamás Szurdi, who attended the event.
Service with a strong impact
Not only the service itself at the launch was spectacular, but also the journey to the launch was also remarkable as preparations started only 9 months ago at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. After a thorough decision-making process, the partner selected was UUX. They lived up to the expectations and built a tailor-made solution. UUX provided Telenor Hungary with one of the world’s first Internet TV as-a-Service (iTaaS) platforms, making the service unique not only in Hungary, but also in Europe. The UUX intelligent iTaaS cloud-streaming platform can manage and support millions of daily multiscreen interactions. It brings a ‘unified’, smartphone-based user interface, which enables discovery, control and consumption of Live and Catch-Up television and Video-on-Demand content across all Internet connected devices and screens.
“I am very proud of our Digital Services team and all colleagues involved in this exemplary go-to-market process. All of us are convinced that we bring new quality to our customers’ lives by allowing them to not be dependent on their home TV sets and official TV schedules. The service is easy-to-use and offers a wide range of appealing content and we take customer feedback very seriously. Although we are at the beginning of this journey, I am sure that MyTV will attract more customers to Telenor, intensify the usage of mobile internet and thus bring us closer to our goals- “taking the Hipernet to all” and “make customers our fans,” says Laska.
