Innovation
Telenor Research and Innovation (R&I) contributes to the long-term global competitive strength of Telenor’s current and future business, by facilitating innovation and providing input to strategic development.
R&I is an innovation hub for Telenor with particular focus on strategically driven innovation with a long-term perspective (2-3 years), innovation that does not fit into existing business areas or business lines, and innovation that is considered strategically important by the Group Executive Management, but which challenges existing line operations and business models.
World class research
R&I is a competence resource centre for the whole organisation, offering expertise and advice, and which challenges management on its existing strategies and business mindset. The activities include experimentation, testing and demonstration facilities. R&I offers world class research in defined areas to enhance Telenor’s operations, based on R&I´s own research, analyses, and trials, and on cooperation with leading companies and research organisations.
Five research units
The organisation consists largely of five research units which reflect the broad R&I field of competence. These units are Business Models, Products and Markets, Service Platforms, Network Technologies and Commercialisation. The work is carried out as interdisciplinary projects. A large number of initiatives and programs are related to Telenor’s current and future global mobile operations, both technically, with respect to mobile systems, wireless networks and service platform technologies, and with regards to customer knowledge, user networks, and future markets and services. A R&I centre in Malaysia was established in 2006 to enlarge the R&I scope and conduct closer studies of emerging markets and new customer segments, with the aim of supporting Telenor’s global operations.
