Partnership with Save the Children Norway

(Oslo, June 2005) Save the Children is an experienced and obvious partner for Telenor in the work to promote safe use of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) among young people.

Redd BarnaThe cooperation began in March 2002, and was reinforced in 2005 when the parties signed a three-year partnership agreement.

Promote safe use of ICT among young people
Save the Children and Telenor collaborate in order to prevent abuse of children on the Internet and to make the Internet and mobile phones safer for children and young users. They do this through a professional cooperation based on knowledge-sharing, competence-building, product development and marketing, as well as through awareness raising campaigns and distribution of information vis-à-vis schools and professional communities.

Awareness raising and education programme
This partnership involves a joint effort from Telenor and Save the Children in the struggle against the distribution of images and films depicting sexual exploitation of children. With Telenor’s contribution Save the Children runs information campaigns in schools, and awareness raising campaigns vis-à-vis public authorities, the police, parents and children.

In the fall of 2005 Save the Children and Telenor embarked on a nationwide tour in Norway, called the “Sensible Web Use” tour. With support from Telenor, Save the Children visited over 20 schools, and provided a broad range of information material and practical guidance regarding use of mobile phones and the Internet. The awareness raising and education programme was partly directed at parents and teachers and partly at children.
