dtac encourages motorists to use hands-free sets

(7 May 2008) Together with the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, Telenor’s Thai mobile operation dtac launches a campaign to encourage motorists to use hands-free accessories while driving. A new law prohibiting drivers from using mobile phones without hands-free accessories takes effect on May 8, 2008.

The Eighth Land Traffic Act imposes a fine of 400-1,000 baht on drivers who use phones without hands-free equipment while driving. The law was passed in an effort to reduce the number of road accidents in Thailand.

The dtac campaign efforts
dtac has launched a series of initiatives to encourage the public to abide by the new law:

  • dtac sends short messages to urge customers and dtac staff members nationwide to refrain from phone use while driving. If people really need to use a phone while driving, they must use hands-free equipment.
  • dtac activates an interactive voice response (IVR) through its 1678 Call Centers to inform customers of the Tho Mai Thue (hands-free phone use) campaign.
  • Together with the Expressway & Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, dtac has set up warning boards at 22 sites: 17 toll plazas and 5 locations at dtac offices.
  • The company promotes the Tho Mai Thue campaign through the radio station Ruam Duay Chuay Kan Happy Station and its network.

Special discounts for headsets
In association with Commy Corp, dtac offers a special discount for Commy Bluetooth A19 headsets. Their price is reduced from 1,290 baht to 790 baht apiece. The discount is available for dtac staff members and customers at the dtac Service Hall and all dtac shops from April 22 to June 15, 2008.

dtac donates headsets to taxi drivers
dtac and the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation have donated 1,000 hands-free headsets to taxi drivers in a bid to promote the Tho Mai Thue (hands-free phone use) campaign.

Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin received 1,000 hands-free headsets from the head of Corporate Social Responsibility at dtac, Perapong Klinla-or, representatives of the Let’s be Good project and Dr. Thaejing Siripanit, head of the Tho Mai Thue campaign and secretary-general of the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is distributing the donated headsets as well as campaign stickers and leaflets to taxi drivers, enabling them to help promote the hands-free phone use campaign.
