dtac emergency hotline
(6 March, 2008) dtac has teamed up with community radio Ruam Duay Chuay Kan to provide an emergency hotline service to the public.
Ruam Duay Chuay Kan (Helping Each Other) is one of Thailand’s leading community radio networks, with 23 local stations covering 40 provinces throughout the country. dtac is now joining hands with Ruam Duay Chuay Kan to provide assistance to the public by integrating key communication channels – radio, internet and mobile phones. The most successful initiative so far is the emergency hotline 1677.
Effective assistance to people in need
The Help Centre RDCK 1677 is operated via a network of people working with the radio stations. Staff will receive calls from people requesting assistance, or calls made simply to report incidents. Callers will be asked to provide all relevant details on the location and nature of the incidents, allowing for the team of Ruam Duay Chuay Kan 1677 to coordinate effectively with the nearest available public service e.g. police, hospital or volunteers. Already there is evidence that the RDCK 1677 service has provided effective assistance to a number of people in need. Staff have handled calls relating to a range of issues, from finding lost people to coordinating with traffic police to manage car accidents.

Nationwide reach
dtac customers can call 1677 for free of charge to report or ask for help for any incidents. The service is also open to users of other mobile phone services but they have to pay for calling based on their call promotions. The Help Centre 1677 can be reached from anywhere around the country. People can also voice their concerns relating to any social issues that affect public interests through the website www.rakbankerd.com. All incidents reported either through the telephone or the website will be addressed by the Help Centre, which will help coordinate public agencies so that assistance can be provided.
A network of “Happiness and Virtue”
As part of the dtac partnership the radio station has now been renamed “Ruam Duay Chuay Kan Happy Station”. The station is broadcast in every region of Thailand with dtac’s strategic support on various key aspects. The overall aim of the partnership is to enhance the community radio based on the concept of "The Network of Happiness and Virtue."
Going forward, dtac is hoping to build on and extend this successful partnership to develop new joint social activities based on integrated communications.
