Pannon supports social workers in their jobs
(14 September, 2007) With access to free mobile internet and laptops, social workers can help disadvantaged people on the spot. This is one way in which Pannon contributes to Hungarian society.
Helping people on the street
In the city of Zalaegerszeg (SW Hungary) street care-givers receive enourmous help in their everyday work by using mobile broadband internet (MBI). Using laptops given to them by Pannon, they fill out forms and share information between homeless people, local authorities and medical institutions while on the street.
Arranging for free medical visitation
Homeless people in Hungary have free medical visitation as long as they hold a special ID card stating their status. Yet, actually getting this card is often hard for the homeless. With the new initiative from Pannon they get help finding, filling out and sending the right forms.
Applying for jobs
Some clients have personal email address which they can access through the social workers’ mobile internet and laptop – this helps them greatly in their search for a job.
Assisting the field workers
Pannon has also distributed laptops to social workers helping other vulnerable, hard to reach groups in Hungary. Constant access to internet in remote geograpich regions makes it easier for field workers to help these populations. Examples of use include:
- Ordering emergency car service for children with cancer
- E-learing project for 80 disadvantaged students in Borsod county (underdeveloped region)
- Employment consulting to unemployed families in Borsod county
- Offering help with communication services to the Roma population in Baranya county
- Helping old people in their homes collect and convey health data, legal advice and arrange official papers
Social contribution through core business - A new way
Pannon connects corporate responsibility to their core business. By making mobile internet access more easily available to vulnerable populations, they are helping bridge the digital divide in society.
